NOCE Makes an Impact
North Orange Continuing Education (NOCE), formerly the School of Continuing Education (SCE), is proudly accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Schools (ACS), Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). NOCE is part of the North Orange County Community College District (NOCCCD), alongside its sister colleges, Cypress College and Fullerton College. Together, the district’s institutions are committed to expanding educational access, strengthening workforce development, and transforming lives throughout the region.
Recognized as a leader in noncredit education, NOCE also contributes to the advancement of adult education statewide by sharing innovative practices, supporting professional learning opportunities, and collaborating with educational partners across California to strengthen student success and workforce pathways.
Since receiving initial accreditation in 2008, NOCE has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, equity, and student-centered learning. Following a comprehensive onsite visit in 2011, NOCE earned full accreditation with an exceptional outcome — a full six-year accreditation cycle with no midcycle review and no warnings. During the visit, the ACS WASC visiting team recognized the institution’s outstanding culture and collaborative spirit, noting that “NOCE is a model school.”
This distinction reflects the dedication of faculty, classified professionals, confidentials, administrators, and campus leaders who work collectively to ensure students have access to high-quality educational opportunities, workforce preparation, and life-changing support services.
NOCE Receives Full Six-Year Accreditation Through 2029
In May 2023, ACS WASC reaffirmed NOCE’s excellence by granting the institution another full six-year accreditation status through June 2029. The decision was communicated by NOCE President Valentina Purtell, who highlighted both the significance and timing of the commission’s action. The accreditation determination was made one month earlier than anticipated — a reflection of the commission’s confidence in NOCE’s institutional quality, operational integrity, and strong culture of continuous improvement.
This achievement reinforces NOCE’s reputation as a statewide leader in adult education and continuing education. It also underscores the extraordinary dedication of NOCE employees whose passion and commitment help students achieve academic success, workforce advancement, economic mobility, and personal transformation.
During the March 2023 accreditation visit, the ACS WASC visiting team validated six defining attributes that characterize the NOCE community:
- Passionate
- Embraces diversity
- Safe to take risks
- Innovative
- Dynamic synergy
- Courageous
These qualities reflect the heart of NOCE’s mission, culture, and the institution’s ongoing commitment to meeting students where they are while maintaining the highest standards of excellence, accountability, and service to the community.
